Barcelona sited between the sea and the mountains, has find a formidable balance: a foot in the traditional things and the other in the avant-garde.
Barcelona has the reputation of being the most cosmopolitan, modern and avant-garde city in Spain and it has renewed for the 1992 Olympic Games.
The political centre is still situated in the medieval part of the city, the beautiful Barrio Gotico with a cathedral from the 1200th century, the City hall and Palau della Generalitat.
Barcelona's medieval and Gothic past has blessed the city with over 200 years of unique architecture, art and culture.
The world famous Rambla di Barcelona offers you a spectacle of light, colours and people.
Barcelona has many impressive buildings with styles going from the gothic to the modernism, but the architectural masterpieces of Gaudi are another important tourist attraction: La Sagrada Famiglia, Casa Milá, the Bellesguard tower, the Calvet house, the Batllo house and Colegi de les Teresianes. And what to see in Barcelona? The Sagrada Familia is probably Barcelona’s most famous and most controversial work of Gaudi. In his vision the Sagrada Familia should become a memorial of remorse for modern materialism in Barcelona: 18 majestic towers shall be crowned by another one in the centre with a total height of 558 feet. Until his death in Barcelona in 1926 (he was killed by a tram in front of Sagrada Familia), he finished the crypt, one of the towers and most of the Christmas facade. Since then several architects and sculptors have contributed to the fulfilment of Gaudí’s vision. Constantly under controversial discussion Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia shall be finished 2030 – if there is enough financial support.
Also the hill Montjüic (Jewish mountain), the Cathedral “Cathe dral de la Santa Creu”, La Pedrera, the Casa Batlló, La Pedrera (nickname of Gaudí’s Casa Mila), Park Güell should not be missed.
