Meda and Eiffel Tower after rain
Meda and Eiffel Tower after rain
Part of the 1889 World Fair, the Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It was an immediate success. However, the construction of the Eiffel Tower was not accepted by all at first, and a petition of 300 names - including those of Maupassant, Emile Zola, and Dumas the Younger - protested its construction. 116 years on and it shines brighter than even, from 1.063 feet vantage point. Since its inauguration on 31 March 1889 by the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII of England, it has been visited by over 200 million people from all over the world. And Meda Bear was 222.222.222nd visitor of the Eiffel Tower.

The monument offers something for everyone, from Gustave Eiffel’s world of hydraulic machines, to history and art exhibitions, explaining the monument’s history and engineering accomplishments, films and displays, shop, restaurants and much more.

But above all, be it night or day, the Eiffel Tower offers one of the most beautiful panoramic city views in the world. The visitors may climb the strenuous stairs or take the elevators to go up the Eiffel Tower. The stairs to the second floor are open to the public and you must overcome the height of 377 feet. Three elevators go up to the first and second floors. To reach the top of the Eiffel Tower in the height 906 feet, you must take another elevator from the second floor. But during the waiting for the elevator to the top you must be patient – in the summer the unpleasant waiting can be longer then one or

two hours. Meda Bear was bored 92 minutes before the assault on the elevator to the top. Finally the elevators take you up on this 59 feet spectacular climb. On the end the “long way” you stay on the top of Eiffel Tower and can enjoy the breathtaking view of Paris. Meda Bear recommends use of the viewpoint indicators for the best orientation.

Tips: Every night the Eiffel Tower shines each hour on the hour for ten minutes, from dusk until 2 a.m. in summer (until 1 a.m. in winter). The Tower's artificial illuminations are changed every year from its inauguration. For example in 2003 the Eiffel Tower white sparkled and in January 2004 it glowed red for celebrating the Chinese New Year.
