To help you have a great time during your vacation in Barbados we have compiled some helpful hints to make your stay more enjoyable.
Barbados, the easternmost island in the Caribbean, is one of the most successful at luring visitors to its shore. Barbados has long white-sand beaches and also enough activities for good vacation.

- Accommodation: Because of many tourists every year, Barbados has a wide selection of hotels, apartments and villas, all providing some 6,000 guest rooms.
- AIDS: HIV/AIDS is prevalent in the Caribbean, as is the case anywhere else in the world.

- Business hours – stores normally open from 8.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. (Mon.-Fri.) and 8.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (Sat). They are usually closed on Sundays.
- Banks ordinarily open from 8.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. (Mon.-Thu.) and 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. - (Fri). There are several ATMs on the South and West Coasts, and in Bridgetown.

- Beaches: In terms of beaches, Barbados is blessed with same of the best, with many manned by qualified lifeguard for your protections. Some of the most popular beaches are: Silver Sands, Enterprise (Miami) Beach and Accra Beach in Christ Church; Paynes Bay Sandy Lane and Folkstone in St. James; Mullins, Six Men’s Bay in St. Peter; Bathsheba in St. Joseph; Long Bay, Bottom Bay Crane Beach and Sam Lord’s Bay.
- Buses: Every part of Barbados is accessible via public transport. Barbados’ public transport needs are met by the Government-owned Transport Board fleet of buses, distinguished by the blue and yellow color and BM license plate. This service is augmented by privately operated minibuses which are yellow in color and route taxis which are white with a burgundy stripe. The fare is BD$ 1.50 to any destination on each of these units. The minibuses and route taxis will make change, however for the Transport Board buses, you need exact change.

- Capital city is Bridgetown in the parish of St. Michael.
- Currency is the Barbados dollar US$ 1.00 = BDS$ 1.98. US dollars are accepted island-wide, and most stores and restaurants accept major credit cards and travelers cheques.
- Car rental: Car rental agencies are numerous and rates are generally reasonable. Vehicles range from sedans to convertible compacts. Please be sure to have your driver’s license handy and make certain it’s valid. Some rental companies require a security deposit. Remember, driving in Barbados is on the left.
- Clubs: In Barbados you find quiet bar, the heartier pub, or the fully patronized nightclub.South Coast: Club Extreme in Worthing, The Reggae Lounge in St. Lawrence Gap, The Ship Inn in St. Lawrence Gap, The Waterfront Café in Bridgetown. - Dress: Swimsuits are for the beach and it is not good etiquette to go shopping or into restaurant without covering up a bit. In the evening restaurants are casual but elegant, and shorts are acceptable, except in the very exclusives ones.
- Drugs: The penalties for illegal drugs are severe, even for "softer"drugs like marihuana. You can be fined or jailed if found guilty of drug possession.

- Electricity: 110 volts, 50 cycle.
- Emergencies: The emergency numbers are as follows: Police 211, Ambulance 511, and Fire 311. A good private clinic is FMH Emergency Medical Clinic, tel: 228-6120. Collins Ltd. in Bridgetown is an excellent pharmacy.

Image- Flora: One of the island’s more notable trees is the bearded fig tree, for which the island was named. Other trees common to Barbados are palms, casuarinas, locust, white cedars, and mahogany. Almost every Barbadian home has a well-landscaped garden either at the front, at the side or around the perimeter of one's property. Lawns are also popular. The most popular garden flowers include bougainvillea, hibiscus, roses, ginger lilies, jasmine, Joseph's coat, morning glories and sage roses. Some use shrubs like crotons, angelicas, sweet lime, silver dollar, snow-on-the-mountain and traveler’s palm as hedges.
- Fauna: A few introduced mammals are found in the wild, including green monkeys, mongooses, hares, mice, and rats. You can meet also nonpoisonous grass snake, lizards, frogs, tortoises, and sea turtles.

- Geography: The island is 21 miles long and 14 miles wide and the area is 166 sq miles. It is divided into eleven parishes.
- Government: Barbados is independent since 1966 with a Prime Minister, and two parliamentary houses - the House of Assembly and The Senate. The country is a member of Commonwealth and there is a Governor General. Barbados also has the third oldest parliament in the Commonwealth.
- Gardens: In Barbados you find many flowers in Andromeda Botanic Garden in Bathsheba, The Flower Forest and Orchid World in the parish of St. George.

- Highest point: The highest point is Mount Hillaby (1.222 ft).

- Internet: Bean-n-Bagel, located in Dover, Christ Church offers high-speed internet access in air – conditioned sorroundings. They also have an extensive menu and the best gourmet coffees.
