To 987 A.C. and they were located in the states of Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatan, Guatemala and Honduras; they were excellent marines, since they traded for the whole Gulf of Mexico, including the islands of the Caribbean, like Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica etc. carrying among other products, Cacao-nut, Henequen and Tobacco, which they smoked, and thanks to them, all these islands have in common Mexican tobacco, what the Mayan denominated as CIKAR that means to SMOKE in Mayan language. As the Mayan also traded with the Olmecan ones, tobacco was diffused to the whole north of America and Canada.Cuban cigars

The Indians termed the act of smoking sikar it was only done as part of a fortune telling ritual. Later the Spaniards began rolling the leaves into cigars that could be smoked through the mouth. So tobacco was grown commercially in Cuba after 1580, and by 1700 it was the largest export.
The type of tobacco is defined according to the industrial use of the leaves elaborating raw material for pure, dark and light cigars and for tobacco-pipe. A cigar is conformed by three types of leaves with different characteristics and therefore they complete very particular functions, this leaves receive the following names: wrapper, binder and fillers. | | Tobacco farm |
