Yes, it will mean more walking and the visit of Zoo will be quite demanding (Prague is large for a city Zoo and there are hills to climb), but the memories from Prague Zoo is nonetheless one that will stay with you for a long time.
 | | beetle Goliathus | The Prague Zoological Garden is located on a hillside on the right bank of the Vltava River, not far from the Troja Chateau on rocky surface. Prague Zoo is one of Europe's largest and also nicest, because of its perfect location. The Zoo occupies the lush river valley. The rocky cliff faces and the rolling meadows at the summit making this a stunning vista for a city Zoo. It was designed by J. Fuchs and opened in 1931 on an area of 20 acres. At first, it had about 200 animals. At present, the Prague Zoo covers an area of 45 hectares and it has 7, 5 miles of paths and also a funicular. Its facilities include a restaurant, refreshments, and playgrounds for children.
 | | Capybaras | It has a total of 2,000 animals, representing 380 species of mammals, birds and reptiles, 50 of them very rare, including the species from the Red Book of Endangered Species. The animals here looked in excellent condition  | | Flamingos | and many of them had whelps, which is usually a good sign that they are happy in their environment. The Zoo has shown considerable success in its breeding programs over the years. Prague Zoo has been associated particularly with the breeding of the Przewalski horse, its trademark animal. The Prague Zoo was the first Zoo ever to artificially breed a polar bear cub, and it contributes significantly to saving critically endangered species.
 | | Elephants | In Prague Zoo is possible to observe several hundred animals (e.g. Chimpanzees, zebras, lamas, deer, sheep, gazelles). Mammals there include the largest (elephants), the tallest (giraffes), the fastest (cheetahs), and even the smallest (mice). From close up you can observe the life of insects. Meanwhile, parrots preen their feathers, and you can get an idea of how the inhabitants of the Australian outback, the African savannah, the northern forests, and the South-American rain forest live. There are thousands of places worldwide where you can see captive birds (e.g. parrots, mynahs, hawks, falcons, eagles, vultures, owls, Andean condors, penguins). On December and January nights, guided strolls will take you into the mysterious world of animal nightlife.
 | | Cockroachs | The Prague Zoo was hard hit by the devastating floods in September 2002 and it has put in place a program of recovery, so the lower area was still being redeveloped mid 2004. Scores of animals perish flood-hit at Prague Zoo as keepers struggled to save them from flood waters. Eighty birds and nine mammals, including an elephant, lion and gorilla, either were put down because they couldn't be moved to safe areas in time. The Zoo evacuated more than 1,000 animals.
